UMIE X MUMMA

In the lead up to Mother's Day, we chat to a few of our UMIE mumma's about all things motherhood, business and of course, fashion!

UMIE MUMMA - Tash Scutts

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I live in Newport on Sydney’s northern beaches, in close proximity to my mum, dad, sister and brother and all their family members. We are all super close. I am the mother of Liv and Lucy aged 22 and 20. My husband’s name is Stephen and we have been married for 25 years. I am the founder and CEO of Lovebyt.

Your favourite things about being a mumma?

The unconditional love that you can give a human is the best thing about being a mumma.

Your trick to balancing motherhood and your business?

When you are a mumma and work you have to choose your battles. You can’t get involved in the small stuff. Allow them to be responsible for their own actions. Tell them everyday you love them. If they have love then everything else falls into place.

A piece of advice for your children?

Firstly, spend wisely. Buy good quality not quantity. Try not to worry about things. Worry won’t solve problems. Be nice to your mum – which they are.

Which UMIE piece is on your Mother's Day wishlist?

Bassike’s red linen gathered waist dress. Such a timeless investment piece that can be worn year after year. Australian made and natural fibres. Ticks all the boxes.

UMIE MUMMA - Belinda Guerra

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Belinda Guerra, turning 30 this year and pretty excited about it. Business owner, mum, wife, prolific wine drinker and Novocastrian.

Your favourite things about being a mumma?

Watching their personalities grow and develop. Olive’s just turned four and is possibly one of the kindest people I have ever met. Also the cuddles are pretty great!

Your trick to balancing motherhood and your business?

Both of my businesses are something I’m really passionate about and love doing, which helps because it doesn’t really feel like ‘work’ most of the time. However being online I am lucky I get to sneak in a lot of admin and emails on the go or whenever Frozen is playing for the 10th time that day.

A piece of advice for your children?

Always be yourself. And listen to your mother.

Which UMIE piece is on your Mother's Day wishlist?

I have ALWAYS been on the Bassike bandwagon. The current Stripe Fitted Athletic tank is the perfect piece to take you from beach to bar, and like all Bassike pieces is sure to stand the test of time.
SHOP - the Stripe Fitted Athletic Tank and the Boxy Motley Tee.

UMIE MUMMA - Bonnie Mooney

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a mumma, a lover, a creator and a hopeless romantic. I grew up on the sandy shores of Port Stephens and it was here I was lucky enough to meet my darling husband, Dan. We now have two incredibly scrumptious babes, Morna (5) and Chilli (2). I followed my parents creative nature into musical theatre and came out the other side as a makeup artist. I have since created Makeup by Bonnie Lee and MBL Beauty; two of my most cherished creative outlets that I am fortunate enough to call my 'career'.

Your favourite things about being a mumma?

Watching them grow into their own little selves. It is so incredible to see how they create their own through the influences of those around them. I love watching how they navigate through difficult situations and how their big-little minds tick over as you fill it with unconditional love and daily adventures.

Your trick to balancing motherhood and your business?

Coffee, this magic potion works absolute wonders. But along with this caffeinated goodness, my trick is to not put too much pressure on myself to find a balance and take every day as it comes. Some days I need to rise before the sun to get things done and others I am able to pour myself into lounge room dance parties and lego-making antics. I always try to switch off around 4pm and let my mind unwind along with the babes.

A piece of advice for your children?

Be true to who you are in every aspect of your life, the rest will follow.

Which UMIE piece is on your Mother's Day wishlist?

THE LEE MATHEWS GIGI CAMI DRESS!! I am dying to pair this with a long sleeve skinny over winter then dance through the balmy streets of Mykonos during our 2021 Euro summer. It is the perfect timeless addition to my ever-growing UMIE collection.

UMIE MUMMA - Karla Cowper

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a mother to 4 awesome kids - Bowie, Duke, and  twins Chilli & Scout. I am a creative who currently works in events and previously founded Hunt & Gather with my sister.

Your favourite things about being a mumma?

All the love of course! These are the people who love me unconditionally, who I can kiss and cuddle as much as I want, and who will always keep me grounded. My children have taught me that there is no such thing as perfect and that we are all just doing the best we can…so be kind to yourself!

Your trick to balancing motherhood and your business?

Be present. Whether it is at home or at work - be there 100% and make sure you prioritise the right amount of time for each.
Also the other biggest lesson…We are all doing our best, we are human, sometimes we will make mistakes and thats normal and actually completely okay.

A piece of advice for your children?

Always do you.
Be brave enough to be different because different is interesting.
Be kind, always, even to yourself.
